Srinagar, Jan 06 : In another incident of its kind in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, a 10th class student missed his exam after school authorities refused to give him roll number slip for sitting in bi-annual board examination due to non-payment of fee.
Bashir Ahmad Marazi told Srinagar-based news agency GNS over phone that his nephew was supposed to appear in 10th class examination today but concerned authorities at Hanfia Mission Public School, Kreeri refused to give roll number slip due to non-payment of school fees.
“The outstanding balance was Rs 3,000 and today I along with my nephew Asif Ahmad Khan, went to school. I had arranged Rs 1500 and asked the school authorities to accept the amount and also assured them to pay remaining amount next month,” he said. However, he said, they out rightly refused to give the roll number slip.
He, however, said that the Principal of the school, Abdul Hamid, asked the managing body to issue roll number slip but they did not paid any heed.
“The managing body refused to give roll number slip as the chairman of the school Mr Syed Fayaz Bukhari had already passed the direction to bar the roll number slip of my nephew,” he said, adding, “We begged before them but they pushed us out of the school.”
Marazi said that Asif is an orphan whose father died twelve years ago due to heart attack.
“Since then, Asif is living with us and studied in the same school right from beginning,” Bashir Ahmad Marazi said, adding that it was ironical on the part of the school authorities to bar him from sitting in exam. “Due to day today problems, I couldn’t pay his fee from last couple of months. But, today I managed Rs 1500 and went before the school authorities. Instead of trusting my word that I will pay the whole fee in the month of February, they refused to hear a single word,” he said.
Urging Education Minister and Director Education to intervene into the matter, he said, serious action should be taken against the school authorities.
Syed Fayaz Bukhari, chairman of the school, rejected the allegations even as he urged GNS not to publish the story.
“I will investigate into the issue but to my understanding nobody has pushed him out of the school. Kindly do not carry this story, I will send roll number slip to his home tomorrow,” he said.
Asked who shall take responsibility as the student has already missed his English paper, he said, “He is one among the ‘vulgar’ students who have nothing to do with the studies.”
When contacted, Director School Education Dr Shah Faesal told GNS that he will took into the matter.
