Srinagar 22 May (KNB): Ahead of Eid al-Fitr people across Kashmir stepped out of their houses to buy clothes and other essential commodities from the market – maintaining social distance norms.
Despite Covid 19 scare, main shops of Lalchowk Srinagar were abuzz with activities as people were seen busy in buying the food items, clothes by maintaining social distance.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday eased the restrictions in several places of Kashmir and allowed people to buy essential commodities ahead of Eid -al-Fitr.
“From the last two months we were under lockdown, Now I have to buy clothes for my kids. If they will not wear new clothes on Eid then there is no point in working hard throughout the year,” said Mushtaq Ahmad to KNB at the busy market Lalchowk.
In the Bandipora district, shoppers – wearing protective face masks and gloves were busy buying new garments and food items ahead of Eid- al-Fitr. Bandipora is the only district in Kashmir who has fought back and has only 9 active cases.
“Talking to Kashmir News Bureau, a senior doctor said, “ People should understand that this virus is very dangerous and should take quarantine very seriously.”
“Yes, celebrating EID under lockdown is disappointing but at the same if you have life we can celebrate more Eid’s,” he said.
However, it is dependent when the new moon is sighted – Expected to begin over the weekend in most countries, and Sunday or Monday in India.
Muslim council across the world urged people to avoid communal Eid celebrations and prayers to avoid spread of deadly covid 19.
Meanwhile, Major Muslim countries across the world such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Syria has decided to avoid eid prayers and mass gathering. (KNB)
