ARMY AND AIR FORCE AID CIVIL ADMINISTRATION IN FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19.

Srinagar 22 March 2020: The civil administration is working round the clock in the Kashmir Valley to prevent the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID -19). As part of the many proactive measures undertaken, use of specialized sterilization chemicals to sanitize and disinfect public places in the city is a major initiative. Due to the spell of bad weather and unpredictability of the road links to the Valley, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) had approached the Army for their help in providing assistance to tranship the required chemical. Based on the requirement projected, the Army in close coordination with the Air Force airlifted 1,200 Kilograms of the specialised sterilisation chemicals from Delhi to Srinagar. Two Dornier aircrafts of the Indian Air Force were pressed into service immediately for the airlift.

The prompt response in organising the airlift by the Army and Air Force, ensured that the critical chemicals as required by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) could be made available well in time. The joint efforts of all stakeholders guaranteed that the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) will be well equipped to keep the Awaam of Kashmir safe and effectively combat the threat of COVID-19 reaching the Valley.
