Will never allow Pandits’, Sainik colony in Kashmir, says Geelani, Mirwaiz, Yasin

‘JK a Muslim Majority state, liquor must be banned’

Srinagar, June 27 : Appealing people to pass a resolution favoring the peaceful solution of Kashmir and Palestine issues according to the wishes and aspirations of the people in all the big congregational prayer meetings on the Jumat-ul-Wida, the pro-freedom leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik in a joint press statement cautioned the government that the Kashmiris will never allow the construction of Sainik Colonies and the separate townships for the Kashmiri Pandits and they will oppose this plan on every level.

While demanding for complete ban over the sale and consumption of liquor, the pro-freedom leaders said that the Jammu & Kashmir is a Muslim majority state and the stand of PDP-BJP government in this regard is against the religious sentiments of the Muslim population and which had seriously hurt them.

In a statement issued to KNS, the trio said that the policy of the government is still not clear about the Sainik and Pandith colonies and we have decide to monitor the situation closely in this regard.

Whenever we will feel that the government is preparing to implement this plan, we will resist it tooth and nail.

While appealing the people to organize special prayers in the Masajids (Mosques) on the occasion of Jumat-ul-Wida (last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan) for the freedom of Palestine and Kashmir, the pro-freedom leaders said that these are the two important and serious issues and the durable peace and stability in the world is farfetched dream till these disputes are not resolved in and accordance to the wishes of its people.

They said that the Palestine and Kashmir issues have nothing to do with the terrorism and the people of these regions are struggling for their birth and basic rights since last 7 decades. Both the regions have many similarities and the occupational forces in these regions are unleashing worst kind of atrocities upon the local people there. Killings, raps, extrajudicial killings, forced custodial disappearances, destruction of public property by the forces is a routine in these regions. The pro-freedom leaders said that they are preparing a resolution in this regard which will be passed by the people in all major Friday congregational prayer meetings on Jumat-ul-Wida.

While demanding strict and complete ban over the sale and purchase of liquor in the state, Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik in a joint statement said that if this prohibited substance can be banned in Bihar and Kerala like states of India then why can’t in Muslim majority state like Jammu & Kashmir and how could be its sale justified here.

They said that the sale and distribution of alcohol and other dangerous drugs has got the patronage of the government and this menace is acquiring serious trend with each passing day.

While strongly condemning the selective “Freedom of Choice” stand of the government in this regard, the pro-freedom leaders said that this stand has no moral justification and said that the ‘selective freedom of choice’ slogan sounds absurd when the ‘freedom of expression’ is being badly muzzled by the same government. No civilized society endorses the sale and trade of liquor or other like products and everybody knows the seriousness of its impact on the health and the moral principles in the society.

The pro-freedom leader said that this substance is becoming a major reason for the deteriorating social setup and values. They said that we will jointly start to gather a public consensus in this regard and will launch a movement to eradicate this menace from the society. (KNS)
