World University of Design is a young university (established 2018) offering a myriad of programmes at undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral levels across disciplines like Architecture, Design, Fashion, Communication, Visual Arts, Performing Arts & Management. Equipped with the largest portfolio of design courses in India, the university offers a number of cutting edge programs in Computer Science & Design, Transportation Design, Animation & Game Design, UI/UX, Film & Video, Built Environment & Habitat Studies, Design Management, Art Education, Curatorial Practice etc. It is India’s first and only university dedicated to education in the creative domain. Established by the Haryana Private Universities Act, 2006, it is the only design focused university in the northern part of the country to confer degrees under Section 2(f) and 22(I) of the UGC Act.
WUD is established by Shri Om Parkash Bansal Educational & Social Welfare Trust of Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab enjoying over 2 decades of rich experience in establishing & running premier educational institutions. The trust is guided by the visionary industrialist Chairman Dr. Hukam Chand Bansal with the simple aim of imparting quality education and producing society worthy individuals.

So while the university conditions and nurtures aspiring Designers to reach newer heights and pave a rewarding career graph for themselves, it also ensures to educate the Indian mindset about unending career options beyond the traditional; aligning design, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Fashion Design, Architecture and other creative fields with mainstream education which is in accordance with current industrial needs.
Extraordinary Array of Faculty and Board of Advisors
WUD is spearheaded by Dr. Sanjay Gupta – Vice Chancellor, formerly the Dean of NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) and Founding Dean of the School of Design at GD Goenka University, Dr. Gupta is an alumnus of IIT Delhi and IIM Ahmedabad. He was involved in the key initiative of bringing fashion schools worldwide under the umbrella of the International Foundation of Fashion Technology Institutes (IFFTI). A prolific author, editor and consultant to national and international organizations, he has also been a member of committees & bodies at national / international level like ASSOCHAM, CII, IFFTI, BIS, NISTI besides being on the editorial boards of scientific journals.
To augment his efforts, WUD boasts of an extremely talented and visionary board of advisors and an impressive array of faculty and professors from all domains. WUD has been able to attract highly talented and dedicated faculty members with substantial industry experience and background of reputed Indian institutions NID, NIFT, SPA, IITs and College of Art Delhi. Faculty members are also from international colleges such as London College of Fashion, Fashion Institute of Technology NY, Academy of Art San Francisco, De Montfort University UK, NABA & Domus Academy Milan. All faculty members are kept abreast of technology advances in AI, Metaverse, NFTs & sustainability through regular FDPs.
Winning Laurels in Prominent Design Competitions
The institute’s initiative in ensuring participation by students at various prestigious Design Accolades organized by Government of India and private organizations which include Automotive Design Competition (ADC) organized by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), D’source Corona Design Challenge organized by IIT Bombay and Toycathon 2021 – the inter-ministerial initiative of Government of India has earned them winners at these challenges which for a new university is very remarkable.
Student Exchange Programmes
While collaborations with international institutions help provide global exposure to students, industrial collaborations provide them with security of a promising future. It is essential for students to come to terms with fluctuations and development in global trends and adapt accordingly. The world is shrinking into a tiny village yet there is a need to have hands-on knowledge of how things work away from home. This can be best achieved by facilitating communication between students of different universities worldwide and enhancing their interaction with the experts in the foreign lands.
The institute proudly states its esteemed collaborations with some world class universities across the globe. Some of University’s collaborations are with University of Reading & Oxford Brookes University UK, ENSAIT France, Vancouver Film School & Emily Carr University Canada, and University of Berkeley, USA, to name a few.
Over 25 MOUs have been signed with the industry towards cooperation, internship & placements. Every student of WUD gets connected to at least one Industry/SME and one craft through internships, classroom projects and graduation projects. Scores of projects are taken up every year with the industry.
University Art Gallery
WUD has its own Art Gallery that not just showcases its students’ artworks but holds curated art shows of veteran and budding artists from time to time leading our students to learn from experience. What also distinguishes the university from other institutes in the country is that students enjoy focus on studio learning, creative process, small class size with direct access to faculty and expert technical resources.
Impressive Placements
In the last 6 months, about 120 companies came to the campus placing almost all graduates desiring placements with the median salary of 5.1 LPA and the highest package of 12.5 LPA. Happily, some graduates have incubated their start-ups and the rest have gone for higher education. The brands coming for placement includes names like Amazon, Whirlpool, KPMG, Capgemini, Benetton, Human Factors International, Pepperfry, AJIO, Max Fashion (Landmark Group), Milton, Kangaroo, Cognizant, TATA Class edge, Studio Lotus, JLL, EX2 India and over 100 other companies.
Center of Excellence in Rapid Prototyping– a State-of-the-Art Lab
Adding another feather to its hat, World University of Design recently set up a Center of Excellence providing a giant canvas to its students like never before. The new addition to campus boasts of rapid prototyping tools including 3D parametric software, 3D scanner, 3D printers, Laser cutter, and CNC machine. Under the ERASMUS+ funded DESINNO project of the European Union, the center of excellence aims to provide a common ground for (a) the development of innovative and permanent methods for Research and Design development (b) establishment of cross-sectoral projects for collaboration and co-learning, (c) establishment of Inter-industry projects to facilitate the inclusion of design, (d) development of sustainability aspects of design, (e) development of community- based programs enabling designers, craftsmen and artisans, (f) modernization and internationalization of the university by following state of the art methodologies in design thinking, sustainability, design research, social innovation, ethical issues in design, etc
Covid Management
During the pandemic World University of Design became the first university in the country to go online even before the lockdown was announced and carry on the academics as per schedule. Not a day’s teaching was lost as WUD carried on with admissions, teaching, examinations, internships, projects, placements, graduate shows, and even student festivals online. Later WUD made certain that the students do not miss out on their regular practices and so a bio bubble was created so that a set of students could complete their assignment at a laboratory on campus. This level of dedication has drawn new admissions this year. We have students from all across the country
