We don’t need a peace that will bulldoze our rights: Er Rasheed

How can you praise Maharaja Hari Singh as well as Sheikh Sahib; Er Rasheed asks legislatures

AIP Supremo and MLA Langate Er Rasheed today had a heated exchange of arguments with CM Mehbooba Mufti and other Members when he drew attention of the house towards reports carried out by a section of media that army has already completed construction of about 700 flats in Old Airfield area and work on many more buildings is on.

v
Er Rasheed asked Mehbooba Mufti to clear that if the said flats are part of the proposed sainik colonies and added that it is not only in Old Airfield but army has been violating all norms throughout state and carrying out construction without proper permissions on lands occupied illegally by them.

However CM Mehbooba Mufti reacted sharply and alleged that some people want to disturb peace and entered into a heated argument with Er Rasheed. Er Rasheed reminded Mehbooba Mufti of her promise made in the Assembly few days back that government has no plan to construct sainik colonies and asked her that she can’t shut-down mouth of Kashmiris by calling them anti-peace and reminded her that Kashmiris don’t need a peace that would bulldoze their rights and identity. Er Rasheed also lashed out at Omar Abdullah when he intervened saying that his party has no problem if the sainik colonies are meant for local sainiks.

Er Rasheed responded and asked Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti that Kashmiris will oppose colonies for locals as well, as there is no reason why they should be given separate colonies after retirement if they have their own accommodations and residential house and can also purchase land or house anywhere in the state. Er Rasheed later on lashed out at legislatures and asked them to clear their confusions, doubts and double standards over sensitive issues. Quoting the example of naming state hospital Srinagar after Maharaja Hari Singh’s name, Er Rasheed said that how could a state name Medical Institute Soura after Sheikh Sahib’s name for his struggle against autocratic rule of Maharaja and still name the state hospital after Maharaja Hari Singh’s name.

“How can both Sheikh Sahib and Maharaja be rewarded for their work if they fought each other and state praises Sheikh Sahib for bringing democracy in the state and fighting Maharaja” he added.
