‘International level coaching be imparted to JK Sportspersons’
Patiala, Jan 20 : With an aim to bring the youth of Jammu and Kashmir into the sports, the second batch of Jammu and Kashmir Sportspersons are at National Institute of Sports, Patiala, for special certificate course in sports coaching.
Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council Secretary, Waheed Ur Rehman Parra on Friday visited NIS, Patiala to encourage the second batch of sportspersons from J&K, who are presently enrolled for the special coaching course.
These sportspersons have been divided into three batches of almost 60 each, including players, coaches and physical education teachers. The first group went for eight-week training to sharpen their coaching skills so that they can help their state produce quality players and the second group of almost 62 players are presently following the same footprints.
Earlier Sports Minister Vijay Goel, who attended the inaugural function of the Special Certificate Course for Sportspersons from Jammu and Kashmir, organized under the Prime Minister’s Special Package, said, “they will be provided specialized sports coaching in order to ensure more participation from J&K at the international level.”
Besides Sportspersons from J&K, the officials, coaches and trainers at NIS, Patiala meet Secretary Sports Council and appreciated the JK Sportspersons for their enthusiasm, will and dedication.
“The Sportspersons from the J&K are fully cooperative and we hope that they prove their metal once they are in their state back,” said the officials at NIS, Patiala.
Meanwhile Mitali, a National Games Gold Medalist who recently attended the Special Sports Coaching Course at NIS Patiala, sponsored by the Sports Council said, “I have been playing for over a decade now but none of the previous regimes thought about training and employing talented sports persons. Hopefully this course at NIS will make my future secure and enhance my employability.”
The positive initiatives of the Sports Department under Sports Minister Imran Ansari which have been actively backed by the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in her capacity as President of the Sports Council have ushered in a new era of hope and recognition for the sports icons. The encouragement and the cash awards to sportspersons like Kickboxer Tajamul, Chess Player Meenal Gupta, and Olympian Chain Singh have gone down very well with the sporting community,” said Kuldeep Handoo who coaches the Indian Wushu team.
