Srinagar, Aug 6 : militants has been killed late Sunday night in an encounter with government forces at Samboora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
“Following a tip off about the presence of some suspected militants, a joint team of Army’s 50 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation at Akram Dar Mohalla, Samboora, Pulwama”, a police official told news agency GNS.
“As such the joint team intensified the search operation, the militants believed to be three in number opened fire triggering off an encounter”.
In the gunfight, a militant was killed and his identity is being ascertained, he said.
When reports last came in the exchange of intermittent firing was going on.
Meanwhile, stone pelting clashes also broke out near the encounter site as people mostly youth tried to disrupt the operation. Police and para-military CRPF in retaliation used teargas shells to disperse the protesters.
In wake of the gunfight, authorities have blocked the internet services in Pulwama as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in the southern district. (GNS)
