Thousands Attend Funeral of Sameer Wani In Sopore

Baramulla: Thousands of people Tuesday attended the funeral prayers of slain militant at Duroo in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.




The militant, affiliated with Hizb-ul-Mujahideen was identified as Sameer  Ahmad Wani Alias Jana, son of Samander Ahmad Wani, resident of Sopore, who joined Hizb, a militant outfit in the year 2014 and was Divisional Commander for north Kashmir.
Amid pro-freedom slogans, wani  who was killed on Tuesday during an encounter between forces and militants in Gamandar, Nagri area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district  was laid to rest.




The gunfight ensued between militants and government forces after forces received specific information about the militants and started a search operation.
Meanwhile, Several areas in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district observed a complete shutdown on Tuesday to mourn the death of a Hizb militant, who was killed in an encounter with security forces at Duroo village in Baramulla  district on Tuesday morning.
According to reports, certain areas of Sopore  town, and Duroo have also maintained shutdown.
