The profundity of division between India and Pakistan is so deep that among the very few international boundaries it can be seen from space.
The satellite image released by NASA last month and posted on it’s Facebook page has gone viral with above 17,000 shares.
Conflict between India and Pakistan after the partition of Indian subcontinent has led to three wars. The India-Pakistan border is one of the most heavily guarded boarders in the world.
To deter arms trafficking and smuggling, Indian government in 2003 decided to use floodlights on part of the border. In the same year announcement was made to replace the floodlights with LED lights to save electricity. The use of LED lights has led to the increase in the visibility from space.
In 2011, NASA had released pictures showing the border and some major cities in both the countries.
