India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval Wednesday asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to “addresses issues that push local youth to join militant ranks in Kashmir.”
“He (Doval) told us to address the issues of youth and stop them from joining militant ranks,” a senior government official, privy to deliberations between the NSA and the state authorities, told Greater Kashmir. “He also extended all possible help to the State in tackling militancy.”
Doval concluded his two-day visit to Kashmir on Wednesday.
The official said the NSA was apprised about the issue of growing unemployment in J&K “which is a factor responsible for youth joining militant ranks.”
“He informed the government that some police battalions are being raised to create more job avenues for youth to stop them from taking up guns,” the official said.
Doval called for “greater synergy” among all security agencies and assured “full support” of the Centre in “tackling militancy and law and order in the state.”
The official said the NSA also had separate meetings with Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and J&K finance Minister, DrHaseebDarbu. “He discussed the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in Kashmir following the last year’s deluge that caused widespread destruction in the Valley and parts of Jammu division,” the official said.
On Tuesday, Doval reportedly discussed ‘package’ for rehabilitation of flood victims and reconstruction efforts in the state with Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed.
Pertinently, on Tuesday Doval has held separate meetings with Lt Gen SubrataSaha, Corps Commander of 15 Corps, Director General of Police K Rajendra Kumar, Inspector General (Kashmir Range) S J M Gilani and IG (CID) A G Mir.
