Srinagar Witnesses Coldest Night at Minus 7.8 Degree Celsius in Last 8 Years: MET

Srinagar 13 January (KNB): The last night has been the severest one in Kashmir, marking this winter season’s coldest night in Srinagar with the temperature plummeting to minus 7.8 degree Celsius, according to the MET, Srinagar. 

As per the weather forecast officials, Srinagar has recorded Tuesday night’s temperature at minus 7.8 degree Celsius since the last eight years. He said that it was January 2012 when the temperature had dipped to minus 7.8.

He further added that the cloudy weather had kept the temperature at low in recent days, but with the clearing of clouds, the mercury dipped to the lowest minus 7.8 degree Celsius last night. “The temperature during the daytime will remain good, but the cold will increase at morning and evening times,” he added.   

However, the dip in temperature was also manifested at the sight of frozen taps, pipelines and puddles during the morning hours on Wednesday and the people were warming themselves on the street peripheries by burning packaging cartons scraps. 

Pertinently, the winter in Kashmir is going through the severest period of 40 days — Chillai Kalan during which people usually witness a biting cold that intense last night with the mercury dipping to minus 7.8 degree Celsius. (KNB)
