Srinagar 29 January (KNB): The temperature across Kashmir valley remains sub-zero with the increasing intensity in cold day by day as Srinagar records -7.7 degree Celsius on Thursday night.
As per MeT, Srinagar’s temperature plunged to -7.7 degree Celsius on Thursday night following the Wednesday night’s -5.6 degree Celsius. The severe cold across Kashmir is witnessed ahead of the likely wet spell on 2nd, 3rd February, already predicted by the weather forecaster.
However, the temperature in different parts of Kashmir was recorded as -10.8°C in Qazigund, -12.0°C in Pahalgam, -3.0°C in Kupwara, -11.4°C in Kokernag, -11.5°C in Gulmarg, -10.8°C in Anantnag and -4.7°C in Budgam.
With the temperature taking dip, the sites of frozen taps, pipelines, water bodies and other water reservoirs are almost everywhere to be seen during the morning hours whereas the lessening of cold during daytime helps in the de-freezing of taps and pipelines in some parts of Valley.
Pertinently, the harshest winter season in Kashmir — Chillai Kalan, which is 40 days, is in its last stage to be ended on January 31 followed by Chillai Khurd, Chillai Bachha of 20 and 10 days respectively. (KNB)
