DUBAI: Pakistan were easily defeated after Sri Lanka dismissed them before lunch on the fifth and final day of the second Test here at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Chasing 137, Sri Lanka completed their well deserved victory for the loss of only one wicket before tea break to beat Pakistan by nine wickets.
Openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Kaushal Silva batted steadily to provide a sound start with a partnership of 124.
Karunaratne remained not out on 62, hitting eight fours and Silva made 58 with five boundaries.
Sri Lanka leading the three-Test series 1-0 after the first Test ended in a draw at Abu Dhabi last week.
The third and final Test will be played from January 16 at Sharjah.
Earlier, Pakistan were all out for 359 in their second innings during the first session with a lead of 136 over Sri Lanka.
Their main scorers were captain Misbah-ul-Haq (97), former captain Younis Khan (77) and wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfraz Ahmed (74).
Pace-bowler Suranga Lakmal was the most successful bowler for Sri Lanka with four for 78. He was well supported by seamers Shaminda Eranga and Nuwan Pradeep, and left-arm spinner Rangana Herath with two wickets each.
Pakistan were cheaply bowled out for 165 in the first innings after which Sri Lanka made 388, taking a big lead of 223.
