Clashes erupt in main chowk
Srinagar, Jun 19 : A spontaneous shutdown was Sunday observed in parts of Sopore town on the second consecutive day against the killing of two militants who died in an encounter in Bomai village on Friday.
All the shops and other business establishments remained closed in several areas including Arampora, Batapora, Downtown, Tehsil road and Brath Kalan Sopore, reports said.
According to KNS correspondent, clashes erupted between youth and forces in Bus stand at Main chowk Sopore. “Police used tear smoke shells to disperse the agitated youth who were throwing stones to them,” eye-witnesses said.
SP Sopore, Harmeet Singh told KNS that barring a few incidents of minor stone pelting, the situation in the area remained peaceful.
Two militants were killed in the gunfight on Friday that lasted for several hours in Bomai village in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district of Sopore area.
The militants were identified as Altaf Ahmad Mir of Gundbrath, Sopore and Imtiyaz Ahmad of Wusan, Bandipora. (KNS)
