‘Snow cleared from the road to powerhouse’

Mehbooba will be next CM, oath ceremony on March 29 in Jammu

Srinagar | Mar 24  Finally the snow that had blocked Mehbooba’s path to J&K CM’s chair has been cleared.

In a much awaited crucial party meet held at PDP president Mehbooba Mufti’s Fairview residence today, the PDP leaders and legislators elected Mufti as their leader in the lower house of 87-member J&K Legislative assembly.

The legislatures who attended the meeting chose Mehbooba Mufti to be PDP’s legislative assembly leader. Talking to press after the meeting, the PDP chief thanked the Party legislators for choosing her as their leader.

With this development, J&K will soon see the elected government. The oath ceremony, according to sources, will take place on March 29 in Jammu.

After hectic deliberations and talks PDP and BJP have finally agreed to continue the alliance. The first breakthrough in melting the ice came when Mehbooba met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mehbooba said she was satisfied with the meeting.

Mehbooba represents south Kashmir’s Anantnag constituency in the Lok Sabha. It may be mentioned that Jammu and Kashmir has been without an elected government after Mehbooba’s father and Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed died in a Delhi hospital.

Mehbooba was widely speculated to take over the reins soon but she dragged her feet on continuing to ally with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and wanted it to redraw the alliance terms that her father had stitched.
