Shabir Shah attacked in Patiala Court lockup

‘Application to authorities to shift Shah to high security zone remains unanswered’

Srinagar, Aug 23 : Senior resistance leader and chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah was on Wednesday attacked by inmates in Patiala Court police lockup. He had to appear in the court of Justice Siddharth Sharma.

In a statement issued to Kashmir Scenario, a party spokesperson said Shah was brought from Tihar jail Wednesday morning and was lodged in Patiala Court lockup room where other prisoners who were also to be produce before the court conspired to attack him.

“They started showering abuses on him and in the meantime two of the prisoners told Shah to immediately manage his way out from the lockup by saying the boys are planning to attack him. As Shah shouted for help, a policeman passing by came to his rescue and in the meantime other police officers came and shifted Shah to a separate lockup room in the court,” he said.

The spokesperson said the above statement was given by Shabir Ahmad Shah in the court room and was endorsed by the police personnel accompanying him. “This clearly shows that a conspiracy is being hatched by the government to kill Shabir Ahmad Shah,” he said.

The spokesperson said an application has been already forwarded to DG prisons, IG prisons and other superintendents of Tihar Jail to shift Shabir Ahmad Shah to high security zone keeping in view his threat to life in Tihar but nothing has been done till date and the application still remains unanswered.
