‘CCTVs cameras, PCR vans to keep vigil’

Srinagar, Apr 01 : With inputs about militant movement in Srinagar and to ensure trouble free upcoming by-polls for Srinagar parliamentary seat, security agencies have been put on high alert, while additional barricades are being setting on all prominent roads in the city.

“There are inputs about movement of militants and we are extra alert. The inputs are pouring in from Srinagar city as well as other parts of the valley so we are keeping an eye on the situation continuously,” one of the top officials of the police told KNS.

It needs to mention here that suspected militants on Saturday opened fire on an army convoy near JVC hospital on Parimpora-Panthachowk by pass road which was retaliated by the Army.

Police sources said that to ensure the peaceful by-polls for the Srinagar Parliamentary constituency, additional security personnel are being brought here besides installing Close Circuit Camera TVs (CCTV) and starting of police control room (PCR) vans.

Sources said the CCTV cameras are being installed at least 50 places and a Maharashtra based company has been hired by the police for that job. “This is to keep proper surveillance in the upcoming polls,” a senior police official told KNS.

Similarly, around 80 PCR vans fitted with GPS system and CCTV cameras also been started for strengthen the security mechanism in the valley.

A police official said the PCR vans will regularly patrol the roads in Kashmir, especially in Srinagar and will be connected with the PCR Srinagar.

“These vans will be fitted with the GPS system, CCTV cameras’ and mobile phones for effective policing and surveillance,” the official said. “When the PCR will get any information about any incident, the people in PCR van will automatically get to know and will reach there within minutes,” he added.

They said the CCTV cameras will keep vigil on activities of miscreants and suspicious movement in the area. “The cameras will help us to keep a close watch on crimes on the streets and also help during law and order problem situation.”

The PCR vans have been introduced in New Delhi and few other Indian states for effective policing. But in Kashmir, sources said they will also help to monitor the situation during law and order problem and keep vigil on the suspicious movement.

The official said these vans will also help to reduce the crime level and fatalities in road accidents.
The increase in militancy incidents is affecting candidates campaigning as political parties seem reluctant to hold election rallies in central and south Kashmir.

The south Kashmir is the most volatile area where the militancy related incidents have increased since the last year’s summer unrest triggered by the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Muzzafar Wani. Recently, a PDP rally was attacked with stones in south Kashmir in which three workers got injured. (KNS)
