Anantnag, Dec 23 (KNB): With the advent of winter, pestering power crisis has hit Anantnag District as most parts of the District reel under severe electricity shortage with no indication of improvement in the near future.

Officials said the power distribution system in Anantnag District is under tremendous stress due to overload.

According to sources some of the villages in District Anantnag are without electricity from last one month while talking to the Kashmir scenario a resident of Hajipora Bun Numbal Mattan Anantnag told that we are suffering from power transformer in area from last one month,
in 2005 the PDD department issued us 100kv transformer for our village but the said transformer is damaging day by day because of load shedding in our area we are living at least 250 households in village but the concern department didn’t feel and hear our pleas. Said Aarif Ahmad a local resident.
From last four months we repaired our 100kv transformer at least eight times every time we collect money from households and gave to the concern inspector for repair but still the transformer is damaging on load shedding even though we request several times to higher authorities to issue us 250 kv instead of 100kv but no one is bothered.

The situation in the rural areas of Anantnag District, according to reports is far worse and most of the villages and townships don’t get electricity for days together. According to reports pouring in from several areas of Anantnag District, irked by frequent and extended power cuts, people have hit the roads staging demos against the government.

Meanwhile when contacted to the PDD Axen Mushtaq Ahmad he said that I will look into the matter and ensure that their problem will solve soon. (KNB)
