Police Arrests Two Peddlers; Psychotropic Substances Recovered

Awantipora December 27 (KNB): Police in Awantipora arrested two drug peddlers and recovered psychotropic substance from their possession.

A statement issued to Kashmir News Bureau said that the officers at a checkpoint, established at Nambal Crossing, intercepted a vehicle ‘THAR’ bearing registration number JK01X-4920 with two persons on board.

Officials added that the two persons were identified as Waseem Ahmad Trag S/o Ali Mohammad Trag R/o Tral and Mohammad Lateef Sheikh S/o Abdul Rehman Sheikh R/o Batagund Tral.

Officials further stated that during checking, they were able to recover 17 bottles of Codeine Phosphate and 39 Spasmo-Proxyvon tablets from their possession.

“They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Awantipora, where they remain in custody and vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been sized,” officials stated.

Further officials stated that in this connection, a case vide FIR No. 102/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.

Police officials further said that the community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood.
“Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Police has resolved to deal robustly with drug peddlers,” the statement read. (KNB)
