The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would form the government in Jammu and Kashmir in the next 10 days as the two parties have arrived at a consensus on a common minimum programme, sources told Headlines Today on Monday.
Sources said that a draft common minimum programme has been sent to Delhi for the approval of senior BJP leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after the two parties arrived at a formula to form the next government in the state.
The PDP and the BJP have also arrived at a consensus to informally support each other in the Rajya Sabha election scheduled on February 7.
PDP chief spokesperson Naeem Akhtar had on January 28 indicated that it was close to finalising the deal with the BJP, saying a “seat sharing arrangement is there” and “if everything goes well, this will create a level of comfort” between the two parties.
“We have made it clear, it will depend on the issues we have flagged… The next government will be on the basis of a common minimum programme,” Akhtar had said.
PDP had emerged as the single largest party bagging 28 seats in the 87-member House in the Assembly election results announced in December 2014. The BJP won 25 seats, followed by National Conference (15) and the Congress (12).
The fractured mandate and delay over power sharing agreement between the BJP and the PDP had led to the Governor’s Rule in the state on January 9.
