Nowgam Attack Carried Out By LeT, AlBadr Jointly Says IGP Vijay Kumar

Srinagar 2 April (KNB): Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar on Friday said that Nowgam attack was carried out by both the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and AlBadr militants jointly.

IGP said during a press briefing on Friday that the three militants killed in the Pulwama encounter were identified as Suhail Nisar Lone, Yasir Wani, both residents of Khrew and Junaid, a resident of Pulwama.

He also said that among the four militants involved in the Nowgam attack, two were identified yesterday as Shahid Khursheed and Ubaid Shafi, while the other two have been identified as Junaid and Suhail Nisar Lone, both killed in an encounter today in Pulwama along with third one Yasir Wani of Khrew.

“We are on the job and will either capture or kill the rest of two militants — Ubaid and Shahid in an encounter,” said Kumar.

IGP said that the slain Suhail Nisar had worn a burqa during the attack yesterday and had fled in an Alto car, whose owner he said is Nawaz Dar, a person in whose home the encounter was conducted in Pulwama.

“At the encounter site, one AK and one pistol have been recovered. Our snatched SLR bearing number 51392/1108DPS which was taken away from Nowgam yesterday, has also been recovered from the encounter and proves that the slain militants were involved in the Nowgam attack,” said IGP Kashmir.

Responding to a question of a reporter on BJP being attacked in Kashmir, Kumar said that he thinks the threat is for all the parties, but among them, some faces more than the other. “That is why we do categorisation like X, X2, Z, Y, Z and Z+ because different parties or person face different threats,” said Kumar.
