No Fairytales, It Is In Reality. Forest Food Will Soon Hit Kashmir Streets

 

 

We used to see such things in dreams or listen in the fairy tales. A similar event was put out in reality by the Department of Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing where everything from  Soi ( nettle ) to Pambhak to Wopalhak  were made available.

To spread bio-mass based eco-awareness in and outside Kashmir valley, “Forest Food Festival” event took place at Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) Rajbagh, Srinagar.

This event was aimed to promote the medicinal, nutritional and edible value of traditional herbs which would  in turn generate  livelihood for local communities.

Food  lured with wild  herbs was served on stalls. Babbri beol (sweet basil ocimum basilicum), Soi-nettle Urtica diocia and other traditional herbs were served in the event.

The event was presided over by Minister of state for  PHE  I&FC  and forest  Abdul Majeed Padder. The minister spoke about the promotion and protection  of forests products.

“We are working on setting up the Bio-diversity Management committees which would work for the protection and conservation of flora and fauna in Kashmir,” he said.

Director Education Dr.Shah Faisal  was also present at the event. He stressed upon  the promotion of Folk lore.

“It is the best initiative and such initiatives should be taken as they are very important for us”,he said.
