NC stages massive protests in Banihal against anti-people PDP-BJP Government

Alliance has failed on all fronts, says Shaheen

Banihal | Friday, June 26th, 2015: Terming PDP-BJP Government as a dismal failure, District President National Conference Ramban Mr Sajjad Shaheen on Friday observed that the coalition has messed up governance with competitive politics to score political points over one another as a result of which the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh were suffering.

“The coalition government has certainly succeed in making hollow commitments, which they know are not to be kept”, Mr Shaheen, who contested the recent assembly elections from the constituency said while addressing a massive protest rally against the government, which he said was manifestation of contradictions. He said the government had not even initiated implantation of its so-called Agenda of Alliance.

Mr Shaheen led thousands of people to submit a memorandum to the government through the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, which, inter allia, raises the crucial issue of New Recruitment Policy, discriminatory treatment meted out to people belonging to a particular community by evicting them from their lands in terms of Government Order No 496 of 1st April 2015 issued by the General Administration Department besides host of other issues related to the Banihal Assembly Constituency.

Coming down heavily on the PDP-BJP Coalition Government over its insistence on the anti-youth New Recruitment Policy, Mr Shaheen said such a measure will not be allowed to succeed in a State which is grappling with vexed unemployment problem. “By ignoring well established institutions to ensure fair selections to various slots in the government departments, the government is attempting to commercialise and politicise jobs, which will have highly demoralising impact on the educated unemployed”, he said, adding that the move is is a brazen attempt to bypass the well established mechanism of recruitment agencies like Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission and State Subordinate Recruitment Board. This is a calculated move to undermine the constitutional role of these institutions, which is fraught with danger of encouraging corruption, nepotism and exploitation of unemployed, he maintained.

The National Conference leader lamented over the attempts being made by the insensitive government to negate the gains of Omar led government and said the big effort launched for public welfare has been spilled down the drain. In this context he referred to the poor condition of various utility services and roads, saying the maintenance of these has been put into back burner. He said the revolutionary initiatives taken by the former Chief Minister by announcing a degree college for Ukhral and various administrative units across the constituency seem to have been shelved, as there has been no substantial progress in achieving the objective. He also expressed anguish over the meager availability of rations at the CAPD sale outlets besides scarcity of kerosene oil, sugar and other essentials. He cautioned the government not to test the public patience and ensure availability of essential commodities in the constituency which primarily comprises hilly and remote areas.

The District President also drew the attention of the government towards poor conditions in Sub District Hospital Banihal, besides Unani Dispensary Tether, PHC Khari Ramsoo, Ukhral, Mohu Mangat and Nawgham. He demanded immediate filling up of the vacant posts in these health institutions besides strengthening these with diagnostic equipment and medicines.

The protesters were carrying placards and banners highlighting the failure of the PDP-BJP government on all fronts.
