Narbal youth killing in violation of SOP, FIR registered, 2 cops arrested

Narbal, Srinagar April 18: Police has registered an FIR and arrested two of its men for resorting to direct firing on protesters at Narbal area of Budgam district, in which one youth was killed and four others injured.

An FIR No 34/2015 under sections 302,147,149,341,427 RPC was registered in Police Station Magam,Budgam.

Preliminary investigation revealed that constable Javaid Ahmad had fired with his service rifle on the directions of Incharge police party ASI Manzoor Ahmad, in violation of laid down Standard Operation Procedure (SOP). Both the ASI and Constable have been arrested in the instant case and further investigation is underway. SHO Magam Inspector Khursheed ur Rehman has been attached for lack of supervision.

Authorities have placed several separatist leaders including moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under “preventive” house arrest. Three persons were injured when CRPF personnel opened fire to break up a demonstration at Narbal in central Kashmir’s Budgam district. The injured were rushed to a hospital here where one of them identified as Suhail Ahmed Sofi succumbed to injuries. The other youths are undergoing treatment, police said without elaborating on their condition.

A shutdown is being observed in Kashmir today, to protest against the killing of a civilian by the army on Monday in Tral forests and detention of senior Hurriyat leader, Masarat Alam Bhat. The shutdown was given by Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

Police in a statement said that today morning in Magam area there were reports of stone pelting on vehicles plying on Narbal- Gulmarg road.

Police along with paramilitary police was deployed to contain the situation. The deployed forces came under heavy pelting.

To control the situation they fired few rounds resulting in injuries to a local youth namely Suhail Ahmad Sofi son of Abdul Ahad Sofi of Narbal,Magam.

“Unfortunately, the injured later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. We regret the unfortunate incident and extend our sympathies to the bereaved family,” Police said in a statement.

Meanwhile, both the factions of Hurriyat Conference has called for complete shutdown in Budgam on Sunday against the killing of youth in forces firing.

Geelani said in a statement issued to a local news gathering agency said he and other pro-freedom leaders would held a protest against the youth killing in Pratap Park at 2 pm.
