Nagrota Attack aftermath: MHA ask security forces in JK to remain alert at all levels

Srinagar, Nov 30 : The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has asked all the security agencies in the Jammu and Kashmir to remain alert at all levels.

Reliable sources told KNS that the MHA did so, following the Nagrota attack and spurt in militant activities across the state and intelligence inputs that militant organizations might carry out attacks.
Sources said that the authorities in security agencies have been asked to deploy additional forces in key areas such as marketplaces, places of worship, and strategic installations.Sources said that the advisory also said that Jammu and Srinagar city should be extra-vigilant.
Meanwhile sources said that following the sudden spurt in militant activities across the state, politicians including ministers and legislators have been asked to remain extra-cautious and use bullet proof vehicles while moving around.

According to sources, the recent militancy related incidents have prompted the MHA to issue the fresh advisory.

Sources also said that the politicians have been asked to venture out into any area only after getting clearance from the police. “The concerned police station and the SSP know the security scenario of an area and they only can decide whether the area is safe or unsafe for the visit of a politician,” sources said adding that additional security in the districts has also to be managed by the district SSPs.

A senior police officer in Srinagar said that the security apparatus of ministers and legislators was beefed up recently soon after the surge in militant activities.

However one of the senior officials of the police said that these are standing directions. “Use of bullet proof vehicles by the ministers, legislators and prior information to police are standing directions,” he said.

Meanwhile sources said that a high-level security meeting was chaired by Union Home minster Raj Nath Singh at New Delhi.

“During the meeting, the Home minister sought reports from the participants about the status of law and order, over all security arrangements in Jammu and Kashmir,” sources said.

Sources said that senior officials representing different security agencies briefed the meeting about the required steps to be taken.

According to sources while complimenting the role of the J&K Police and other security agencies, the union home minister said that it is always a challenging and daunting task for the security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir but due to sincere and effective efforts of all security agencies, they are ensuring peace in the state.
