My responsibility will be to make Srinagar adorable: SMC Commissioner

‘35 places identified for creating of green corridors’



Srinagar, Oct 26: New Srinagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner Riyaz Ahmad Wani who joined on Wednesday to the new posting said that Srinagar city is the ‘crown’ of the state and his responsibility will be to make this crow more adorable and beautiful.
Wani, who took over after removal of Dr Shafkat Khan, said that Chief Minister has described Srinagar as ‘crown’ of the state and as SMC commissioner his priority will be to upkeep and adore this crown.

“Extensive planning has already been done for development and beautification of the city, and my responsibility and priority will be to execute and monitor it within time limit,” Wani told KNS after taking over.

He said that under Smart city project, AMRUT for streaming urban transport system, the city will become more modernized and beautiful.

“35 places in the city have been identified by SMC for creating of green corridors, cycling and walking corridors will be built for the citizens,” he said.

For sanitation, Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan campaign will be carried forward, and a project funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) will be allotted soon for further sanitation and cleanliness process of the city, he said.

He said that face-lifting of the city t has been done but that need further improvement.


He appealed all the stakeholders-citizens, employees, visitors- for cooperation with SMC for upkeep and beautification of the city.

About challenges facing SMC, he said that winter in falling, snow clearance and water logging are the immediate ones for which SMC “will make advance preparations to overcome these challenges”. (KNS)
