Militant killed, Army man injured in ongoing Samboora encounter; internet suspended in Pulwama

Srinagar, Nov 2 : A militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit has been killed while a trooper sustained injuries in an ongoing encounter at Samboora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday evening.


A police officer told news agency GNS that a joint team of army’s 50 RR, SOG and CRPF acting on a tip off cordoned off Samboora area of Pampore this evening. As joint team of forces intensified the searches and fired some warning shots towards a suspected spot, the hiding militants believed to be two in number opened fire, triggering off an encounter, he said.

In the ensuing gunfight, a militant was killed and an army man received injuries, the police officer said, adding that the identity of the slain is being ascertained. The injured trooper according to the officer was immediately evacuated to military hospital for treatment. The officer said that the operation in the area is still going on.

Soon after the news about the encounter spread in Samboora area, the locals mostly youth took to streets and pelted stones on forces. The police and paramilitary forces resorted to tear smoke shells to disperse them. Meanwhile, authorities this evening snapped internet services in the southern Pulwama district as a “precautionary measure” in wake of the encounter. Sources said that the telecom authorities on the directions of authorities snapped all modes of mobile internet including 2G, 3G and 4G in the district. (GNS)
