Malik Sajid

The summer of 2016 has proven to be very deadly for the people of Kashmir. In the wake of killing of militant commander Burhan Wani on July 8 the death toll has hit 92 and nearly 13000 are injured, with hundreds being blinded by brutal pellet gun.

For 86 consecutive days the Valley of Kashmir has remained shut. This continuous shutdown is unprecedented in the history of Kashmir.

Musaib Ahmad, a youngster states- “ 2016 has been yet another painful year in the history of Kashmir. Heartrending cries of bereaved relatives , dead bodies, humans blinded by pellets, maimed by torture have defined the summer of 2016 for the pain hit masses of Kashmir. Government has acted with absolute heartless approach and taken no initiative to end the crisis .”

Thousands of people participating in funeral prayers amid pro-freedom sloganeering. Hundreds of women walking with the funeral procession amid wails and beating chests have been the scenes emanating from nook and corner of Kashmir.

Buzz word on streets is that the party PDP that promised healing touch and resolution to Kashmir has in brutal contrast presided over a massacre in Kashmir, which remains big irony of times.
