55 cases are having travel history: CMO Kulgam

Srinagar, May 13(KNB): Popping up as one of the worst hit localities across whole valley, Kulgam district of South Kashmir is enduring a massive hike in the affected virus patients with as many as 63 cases active out of 69 positive cases of virus along with Bandipora with 134 and Srinagar with 136 cases.
Of the total 934 positive cases of deadly Covid-19 across Jammu and Kashmir, as many as 314 confirmed positive cases were detected from South Kashmir as 127 cases detected from Anantnag district, 104 from Shopian, 14 from Pulwama while district Kulgam registered biggest single day spike as 28 cases were reported on 12th May taking the total toll to 69 with at maximum 63 cases being active making it one of the COVID-19 hotspot area in the valley.
Following the constant rise in the positive cases, the administration has started keeping a keen eye on the people coming back from outside the valley and after proper testing processes are being kept under quarantine, as the maximum number of positive cases are of those with travel history.
While talking to Kashmir News Bureau on phone Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kulgam Dr Fazil revealed,that almost maximum cases are those having travel history,
“Out of all confirmed positive cases in the district about 55 cases are those possessing travel history and this is the main cause for the sudden rise in the cases as people are returning back to the valley in bulk while the remaining cases are close contacts of corona affected persons detected out during surveillance.”
When asked about the age group of affected positive patients he replied,
“The patients belong to a wide range of age groups starting from even 10 years, the affected ones admitted in the district hospital are gaining stability while the bulk of patients admitted yesterday are also not so critical and with God’s grace they will all recover.”
He further added, “the team of paramedics work very hard day and night to trace the maximum no.of affected persons and their close contacts and I am sure with the team support and hard work we ll soon make the Kulgam district free of this deadly virus.”
When Kashmir News Bureau contacted Divisional Commissioner Kulgam Showkat Aijaz Bhat he said, “Sudden hike in the number of positive cases is all due to the bulk of the stranded passengers returning back to valley from hot zone regions as that of Delhi and all of them are kept under administrative quarantine.”
He further added, “We are all active and maximum number of people having travel history and those of close contact traces of the affected ones have been traced, hopefully everything will be stabilized in few days.”(KNB)
