Kashmiri Singer Waqar Khan Refuses to Perform at Jashn-e-Kupwara Event

Programme Venue Adjacent to Jamia Masjid, Don’t Believe in Hurting Anyone’s Religious Sentiments

Srinagar, Aug 7: In a setback to the organizers, renowned Kashmir-based singer and lyricist Waqar Khan has withdrawn from performing at Jashn-e-Kupwara event for the reason the location being in proximity to a religious place – Jamia Masjid (Markaz) Kupwara. Khan was scheduled to perform at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Kupwara.

Khan told GNS that it goes against his work ethics to perform at a venue which is near to any religious place. “Such a thing doesn’t go hand in hand with his work ethics”, Khan said.

“The venue is adjacent to Jamia Masjid (Markaz) and to perform at such a place doesn’t behove my work”, he said adding I don’t want to hurt anyone’s sentiments or feelings.

Notably, the performance of Khan was part of a series of activities of Jashn-e-Kupwara event – being held to promote sports and tourism in the Kupwara sector. (GNS)
