Srinagar, May 15(KNB): As the Economic impact of the Coronavirus pandemic has been largely unruly across the globe, many poverty-struck people are using social media platforms to seek help in order to safeguard and promote their livelihood.
Researches revealed, the economic costs of the nationwide lockdown on millions of poor could be cataclysmic while the slump caused by COVID-19 could push an extra half a billion people in to extreme poverty in the coming times constituting 8 percent of the world’s population, amid this panicky scenario the needy ones have turned to social media to seek some sort of financial help.
Social Media has become one of the most easiest used way to help the poor and needy people as through the use of Social networking sites like Facebook or twitter, one can raise his or her voice and create awareness and get a helping hand while in the same way many such advantage mongers are there taking the advantage of the current situation by raising donations thus surpassing the actual needy to extreme end.
Many virtuous persons across the valley showing the concern for the actual needy and poor people have appealed every almsgiver to donate cautiously as this is the month of giving zakat, and it should be given in such a way that one won’t end giving one person thirty lac and ignoring thus 60 poor households.
They said that it is the responsibility of society to check properly before supporting financially donation seekers doing it through Social media whether they are for real or just to foregather more and more money as if a single person is getting donation in millions it certainly snatches the daily bread and butter of hundreds of proverty striken families.
While talking to Kashmir News Bureau on phone Journalist Rameez Makhdoomi said, “Any poor has every right to seek alms but he or she should develop a conscience that when account gets much donation than needed, they should inform and return the amount. In these times of pandemic coronavirus when economy of a place like Kashmir stands shattered it is duty that we also donate after thorough probe.”
He further added, “If a person gets two to three million donations that means a single poor family is eating resources of 100 families . This whole mechanism of charity needs to be reformed so that maximum are helped and in name of seeking help humans do not turn into bandits.(KNB)
