JK’s Rajouri defeats coronavirus, declared ‘virus free’ district

Rajouri 18 April(KNB): In what could be seen as a major relief for the Jammu and Kashmir government after learning that people in Rajouri defeated coronavirus and the area was declared ‘virus free’ district.

The first positive case for Covid-19 was reported on March 31 when a 65-year-old retired doctor, who attended a religious function at Bari Brahmana and came in touch with Sopore man who died of deadly coronovirus in Chest diease hospital in Srinagar. Later, the patient’s son and neighbor also contracted the disease from him. All three patients have been discharged from the hospital after they were cured of the infection.

Taking to Kashmir News Bureau Additional SP Liyaqat Choudary said,”This is really a big relief for the district, all credit goes to people of Rajouri who follow the guidelines of government.”

“After a retired ISM doctor who was the part of Tableeghi Jamaat and had a contact with Sopore man who died of Covid-19 in Kashmir – with the help of administration we seal all entry and exit point of areas where the doctor travelled and declare red zone.” He further said.

Meanwhile, After three positive cases for covid19 was reported in Rajouri district, the adminstration declared Saola, Dehridhara, Mangal Nar, Gambir Muglan and Kotli villages in Manjakote area as “red zone”.

“Till now we have tested almost 400 suspected patients who were primary and secondary contact of a doctor and that all came negative excluding his son and neighbor -now negative.” said Nodal officer GMC Rajouri Dr Javid Choudary.

When KNB asked about the break of chain in the district, Dr Javid said, It will take almost more two weeks to get proper scenario of Rajouri district, however we are taking all the percautions to prevent the spread of deadly coronovirus.”

Sources said that “Doctor also visited his clinic to see the patients and later all the close contacts samples was taken for testing that came negative.”

Pertinently, Jammu and Kashmir reported 341 positive cases, 05 deaths and almost 38 recovered from the covid19. 0ut of 341 positive cases, Kashmir valley reported 287, while Jammu is on 54. (KNB)
