Srinagar, June 20 : Days after his release, pro-independence Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Yasin Malik was on Monday again arrested and shifted to central jail when he was going to hold a meeting with Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
According to GNS, the JKLF chairman was arrested by police at Batamaloo Bus stand when he was scheduled to go to Hyderpora to meet Geelani at his residence. Soon after his arrest, he was detained at Kothi Bagh police station and subsequently jailed at Central Jail.
A JKLF leader said the Malik has been arrested six times since May 25 this year by police. He said the Malik is being “targeted” by State for his “successful efforts” of “uniting” pro-freedom leadership over “anti-Kashmir” proposal of “RSS-backed Government in the State”.
Quoting Malik, a statement of JKLF said: “now limit of shamelessness of so-called rulers has touched new low, as they have chosen to ban even personal meeting between two people.” He said by banning mutual meetings the rulers have expressed their animosity against democratic and civilized behaviors.
In the meantime, Malik and Geelani in a joint statement appealed the people of Anantnag to boycott the upcoming by-polls. “About 600 martyrs’ graveyards have come up during the freedom struggle of Kashmir and casting of votes will be an act of treason with the blood of martyrs and will amount to a sellout,” they said.
