Syed Abid Rasheed pitches for effective management towards conserving water resources for posterity
SRINAGAR, MARCH 22: The Jal Shakti Department organized a series of events across various districts of Jammu and Kashmir to commemorate World Water Day highlighting the importance and sustainable management of fresh water resources.
Deliberating on the theme of this year’s World Water Day “Ground Water: Making the invisible visible”, the functionaries of the department threw light on growing need to recycle waste water and reuse it for washing, cleaning, gardening and other purposes.
During the events held across the UT, the Jal Shakti officials emphasized the importance of involving public representatives for making water conservation a Jan Andolan.
As envisioned in Jal Jeevan Mission, Jal Shakti department launched a day long extensive Information, Education and Communication campaign to highlight the benefits of the scheme in laying down the tap water network across J&K. The officials also underlined the need for judiciously using water and making it everyone’s priority.
Chief Engineer, Jal Shakti department Jammu, Engineer Manesh Kumar Bhat, along with Technical Advisor Jal Jeevan Mission, Engineer Sunil Koul presided over the main event held on World Water Day at Jal Bhawan Jammu.
Bhat exhorted upon the officials to lay special focus on effective water management practices including grey water management for judicious use of water resources.
“We are the custodians of water resources and is must be our prime concern and motive to safeguard this natural wealth for the future generations,” Sunil Kaul stressed while addressing the gathering of Jal Shakti officials.
At Kupwara, Jal Shakti Officials along with local traders and NGOs organized a road show to create awareness on judicious use of water. A pledged was also taken to make all efforts for its conservation.
Similarly, Jal Shakti department in collaboration with schools organized debates, seminars and symposiums on the theme of world water day in Baramulla, Ganderbal, Rajouri, Jammu, Pulwama, Anantnag, Samba and Kathua districts.
The department also encouraged the Pani Samitis to carry out water testing with Field Testing kits in their respective villages.
On the occasion, the department also read out Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s, tweet on World Water Day, “Today let’s reaffirm our pledge to save every drop of water. Our nation is undertaking numerous measures like Jal Jeevan Mission to ensure water conservation and access to clean drinking water for our citizens.”
Mission Director, Jal Jeevan Mission J&K, Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, also tweeted on the occasion which read as, “On the occasion of #World Water Day 2022 Let us all take a pledge to save our water resources and use water judiciously to save it for the posterity. All of us need to focus on effective water management to ensure that the water resources are conserved and managed properly.”
