Srinagar, Dec 10 (KNB): On the eve of International Human Rights Day a complete shutdown was observed in the length and breadth of Kashmir Valley on the call of Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) who had also called for a protest rally towards the UN Observers. The government in a bid to foil the rally imposed strict restriction in most of the parts of Srinagar falling under nine police stations. All the pro-freedom leaders were either places house arrest or detained in several police stations.
Reports reaching Kashmir News Bureau, all shops and other commercial establishments are closed while transport is off the roads. The JRL leaders and activists, led by JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik managed to reach Maisuma Lal Chowk and tried to march towards United Nations observers office at Sonwar, however, Police stopped the rally near Budshah Chowk and arrested all the leaders and activists including Yasin Malik.
Prior to his arrest, JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik while talking to media person said that today civilized world is celebrating international human rights day but in Kashmir, the so-called biggest democracy has chose to choke every voice of dissent and every peaceful program on human rights. He said that from last four days, the way police and forces launched a huge repressive operation against the resistance camp shows that India and its stooges despite their tall claims hold no courage to compete with Resistance camp on political ground and that Kashmir is actually a police state. JKLF chairman on the occasion read out the memorandum from JRL to UN secretary general.
Meanwhile Hundreds of people Sunday joined Awami Itihad Party led by Engineer Abdul Rashid’d protest march in Srinagar on eve of World Human Rights Day to protest against the denial of New Delhi to resolve seventy year long pending J&K dispute. People from all walks of life joined the march that started marching towards Lal Chowk from Jawaharnagar.
