In his village Zanglipora Kulgam in south Kashmir, Muhammad Altaf Dar, 37, was just another common police officer. His friends and other fellows barely knew that he was considered the brain behind key anti-insurgency operations in the valley.
A day after Dar was gunned-down by the suspected militants in north Kashmir’s Bandipore, fellow people from his village gathered to mourn his death when his body was taken to his ancestral graveyard.
Altaf’s five-year-old son, Aryan awaits the return of his father who has been told that his father has gone on an assignment.
Altaf Dar’s brother, Muhammad Ashraf sharing his grievances said, “My brother sacrificed his life for the police department leaving behind his two little children and wife, now they should take up their responsibility. Though Aryan asked many times about him, we didn’t tell him about his father’s death.”
