Heavy rainfall cut off Pulwama areas; Shifted to safer areas

Pulwama, Mar 29: Hundreds of families putting up in houses near the banks of river Jhelum from Nayina to Lethpora area have started shifting to safer locations in view of increase in water level in the river, reports said Sunday.

Fearing that the river might swell again as it did during devastating floods in September last year, panicky residents have started relocating as heavy rains continue to lash the valley.

Meanwhile, reports pouring in from various parts of the district suggest that all the diversions on various streams, including the Rambi ara, have been washed away by gushing waters.

Roads leading to Srinagar, Anantnag, Rahmu, Tahab, Chatarpora, Payer and Pakharpora have been blocked.

Various areas of the district have been completely cut-off from the district headquarters, reports said.

Incessant rains have lashed the Kashmir region since last evening even as the MeT department Saturday warned of week-long wet spell, flash floods and landslides in various parts of the valley.
