This week The Kashmir Scenario had brief online session with the team of upcoming Short Flim ‘Gulabi Rewri’. This film staring Santosh Shukla and Lekha Prajapati was shot in Lucknow and produced by Nilesh Singh (Shiv Tara Entertainment).
In this session, besides famous actor Santosh Shukla and Actress Lekha Prajapati, the Director Deepak Shrivastaw and writer Sujit Kumar Gupta also joined to talk about the movie and their experiences.
Santosh Shukla told The Kashmir Scenario that, it all started with a desire to work on unsung cultural aspects of Lucknow. Santosh said, “I had shared my desire with my old friend Deepak Shriwastav to work in Lucknow not necessarily on a feature film rather on a short films which will bring some new things about Lucknow on big screen. So, Deepak who is a director connected me to Sujit Kumar Gupta a fantastic writer who then narrated a scrip to me, first of all I liked the title “Gulabi Rewri” secondly the script touched me and was very interesting. This was how it started” Santosh Shukla is playing role of a common romantic person.
With Lekh Prajapati as lead actress, the story of Gulabi Rewri is based on a common man and highlights the cultural and social aspects of luckhnow. The writer of the movie Sujit Kumar Gupta says that the story is more about the sweetness and bitterness of life in the flavor of lucknow. Rewri is a speciality of lucknow from times of Nawabs.
Talking about the story and concept of story, Sujit Kumar Gupta said “Deepak was looking for a story based on Lucknow and its specialties, so I came up with an idea as never done before of blending emotions of life with a local specialty sweet Rweri. It is like ‘mewa’ of lucknow, and I will define Rewri as slice of life, a blend of both sweetness and bitterness.” Moreover, speaking about the roles in the movie he said “Santosh Bhai has a great hold on acting on and adapting a character of a story besides being so likable and understanding, it compels one to keep working with him and this is the reason that we worked together on more than 3 major projects”.
Lekha prajapati spoke to The Kashmir Scenario about the role ‘pinky’ that she is playing in the short film. She Said, “Pinky a simple girl born and brought up in the Lucknow but it is a truth that if you try to be over smart with a common person you
may have to pay for that. This character is a great example of ‘don’t underestimate power of a common man’.” She further added, “We shot the film in March mainly in small crowded market and we all were wearing mask had didn’t face any difficulty while on sets. The team was all supportive and made the experience even much better. Apart from shooting we saw whole Lucknow more closely”
Santosh Shukla is also to be seen in the upcoming movie with Akshay Kumar in “Bacchan Pandey”. In this connection Santosh Shukla thanked Sajid Nadiadwala for giving him some important roles in biggest movies of the industry. He said “it’s a proud moment for any artist to work with great stars like Salman khan and Akshay kumar, Sajid bhai trusted me and my performance.” He also shared his experience of working in Salman khan’s Movie “Jai Ho (2014)” he said that and he can’t ever forget the day during ‘Jai Ho’ shooting when Sajid bhai bhai came running to him after shooting intro of 9 minutes and said “usually when Salman Bhai is on screen nothing else catches an eye but you caught attention of us all in whole scene” and after that he kept going on.
Expecting a trip soon to Kashmir, Santosh Shukla along with the team and said that they will love to spend some time in the valley and interact more with people in Kashmir. They also said that there is no match for the Kashmir’s beauty and God has blessed Kashmiris with natural glow, fairness and kind hearts within.
