Srinagar, 22 Apr(KNB):. Lt Gen D P Pandey, GOC Chinar Corps visited Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) Centre and distributed qualification certificates to the students. Indian Army in conjunction with JSS has been focusing on empowerment of women and youth development for residents of remote areas in Kupwara District.
A total of nine JSS centres are being run in Kralpura, Panzgam, Warsun and Dardpura. About 200 students, that includes 160 girls have qualified from these Skill Centres in the last one year.
Two new Skill Centres were also inaugurated by the GOC Chinar Corps at remote village Dardpura, Kupwara dist, which is also known as the ‘Village of Widows’ and has seen limited development over the years. The project will help empower the kin and wards of these widows, who will be provided with adequate skills to find suitable employment or take up the path of entrepreneurship. The Widows of Dardpura were also felicitated with Iftar gifts, stitching machines and solar lights on the sidelines of the event.
A handicapped friendly Scooty was also gifted to disabled instructor, who despite the loss of limb, has taken keen interest and imparts electrical skill training to the students of the electrician training course.
Lt Gen D P Pandey, GOC Chinar Corps interacted with the villagers and appreciated them for their positive outlook, high motivation and strong national spirit. He assured the citizens of all possible assistance from Army. The GOC said that rest of the Kashmir should take lessons of peace from residents of Kupwara, which despite being victim of violations committed by the terrorists, the region has long been a beacon of peace and stability in the region.(KNB)
