Former external affairs minister Yashwant Sinha, who led a five-member delegation to Geelani’s residence in Srinagar on Wednesday.
Ahead of the meeting, Yashwant Sinha had told the media that the delegation was ‘not official’ and its members had come to meet the separatist leaders in their personal capacity to assess the situation which arose after killing of a Hizbul Mujahideen militant on July 8. Since then, Kashmir has been roiled by unrest.
The delegation which is on a three-day visit, is also scheduled to meet chairmen moderate Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and JKLF Chairman Yasin Malik. Mirwaiz who was under detention in a sub jail in Chashmashahi since August 27, was released late last night.
