‘Geelani again not allowed to offer Friday prayers’

Srinagar | June 24 : Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani Sahab continued to remain under house detention and he was today third time in this holy month of Ramadan and 12th time in 2016 forcibly stopped from taking part in the Friday prayers.




While strongly condemning the government actions, The Hurriyat (G) said it is not only a sheer injustice and grave human rights violation but it is also a great sin to stop a person from taking part in prayers and other religious duties or to denied his freedom rights.

Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar also condemned that continuous house imprisonment of senior pro-freedom leader and Hurriyat Secretary General Shabir Ahmad Shah and said that his political activities have been completely banned by the government ever since he had joined the Hurriyat Conference.

While terming the imprisonment of JKLF leader Mohammad Yasin Malik, Bilal Siddiqi, Hakeem Abdul Rasheed and Showkat Ahmad Bakshi in Srinagar central jail and the continuous house imprisonment of Hurriyat deputy Secretary General Haji Ghulam Nabi Sumji as state terrorism and unjustified, the Hurriyat Conference said that these leaders have been kept under the illegal imprisonment in the name of preventive detention and the Tehsildar Srinagar although can’t legally deny their bails but whenever he is being approached for that purpose, he simply leave the office and avoid the situation.




In a Friday’s press release, while demanding the release of all the political prisoners of Kashmir including Masarat Alam Bhat, Ameer Hamzah Shah, Mohammad Yousuf Lone, Mir Hafizullah, Shakeel Ahmad Yatoo, Abdullah Nasir, Hakeem Showkat Ahmad, Molvi Abdul Ahad Sopore, Mohammad Amin Parray, Assadullah Parray, Mehraj-ud-din Nandah, Fayaz Ahmad Dass, Ashiq Hussain Narchoor, Ishfaq Ahmad Quotwal, Adil Ahmad Wagay, Danyal Ismaiel And Zubair Ahmad Turray before the Eid, Hurriyat said that the “RSS backed” PDP government has converted the state into a major jail and the Mehbooba Mufti headed unit has started a war against the pro-freedom people.

The spokesman said Geelani was although imprisoned in 2010 but his detention in 2016 is stricter than before.




“Now no media related person is allowed to meet Geelani sahab and the police personals standing outside the residence of the pro-freedom leader whenever found any person with camera there, they not only stop him but they mistreat and misbehave with him and even snatch his professional camera,” he said.
