Freedom Party aghast over crackdown on leaders

‘Champions of ‘Mufti’s Vision’, ‘Battle of Ideas’ exposed now’

Srinagar | Oct 19: Expressing strong resentment over the crackdown on the leaders and activists of its party, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Jama’at-e-Islami, Umat-e-Islami, and other resistance groups besides religious clerics and scholars, the Democratic Freedom Party on Wednesday said the champions of ‘battle of ideas’ have launched a war against the people.

In a statement issued to PTK, a DFP spokesperson said the present government by cracking down on its political opponents and banning religious activities has turned the State into a Nazi camp.

He strongly condemned the continuous arrest of Freedom Party leaders and workers including the provincial president Moulana Abdul Qayoom, Saif-ud-Din Baagwan (Kishtwar), Abdul Basit (Safa Kadal), Adil Ahmad Dar, Abdul Rashid (Beerwah), Mohammad Younis, Showkat Ahmad, Irshad Ahmad (Ompora, Budgam), Bilal Ahmad Sofi, Rouf Ahmad Bhat alias Pacha (Islamabad), Naseer Ahmad (Sopore), Abdul Rashid Dar (Muslim League, Pulwama), Manzoor Lalhaar, Sajad Hashmi, Nisar Ahmad Rather, Nazir Ahmad alias Afridi, Mohammad Iqbal (Dadsara, Tral), and Sheeraz Ahmad Dar (Nowgam).

The spokesperson lashed out at the puppet administration for keeping under continuous arrest the religious leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir, Advocate Zahid Ali, Moulana Sarjan Barkati, and other while terming it interference in the religious affairs of Muslims. “It is unfortunate that Qazi Yasir has been languishing in police station Islamabad for several months,” he said.

“The crackdown on religious scholars is a hapless act on part of the puppet administration and police and is a sheer transgression,” he said.

Commenting on the arrest of Qazi Yasir of Umat-e-Islami and Sarjan Barkati, the DFP spokesperson said authorities through such crackdown have created a reign of terror in south Kashmir. “All the leaders and representatives of Umat-e-Islami have been put behind bars,” he said.

Strongly condemning the ban on consecutive 14 Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar, the spokesperson warned the government of serious consequences if it doesn’t stop such crackdown.

Reacting against the raids and vandalizing of properties by Indian army in Kralgund, Handwara, the spokesperson said that by arresting 11 members of a single family, the government created history in inflicting tyranny and brutality upon people.
