Today is October 27-and it was the same day in the year 1947- when Indian Army landed in Kashmir for time being to save the princely state from the tribal raiders. But even after 68 years, the Army Jackboots continue their marks in this mountain locked region.

Over these years, Indian state apart from economic packages has brought immense miseries to Kashmiris. There is no family which has not lost a member in this brutal conflict. Kashmir stands divided in two halves-a major portion with India while rest with Pakistan. Pakistan has also gifted some portion to China.

Much has been talked about it since then. Why Maharaja sought India’s help them has been discussed through all the angles.

Noted historian Alaistair Lamb in his prodigious research of Kashmir’s Disputed Legacywrites that Maharaja Hari Singh’s decision in October 1947 to join India was not referred to his subjects at the time; and subsequently it has never been ratified as such by a free and fair popular vote.

So the issue stands pending in the coffers of highest body United Nation’s. The UN  has failed to resolve the issue through Plebiscite-which it advocates for this disputed region.
