Independent Legislator Engineer Rashid who on Thursday survived a ‘murderous assault’ by BJP members in legislative assembly blamed Education Minister Naieem Akhtar for the attack, saying it was a conspiracy hatched by Akhtar to kill him.
“Just two days ago Naieem Akhtar told on the floor of the house that we will slaughter you. And today they tried to do it, but thank God, some NC legislators and other opposition members saved me from their clutches. This is shame on Indian democracy.”

“Some throw blows and some kicked my chest. I am severely injured. This act is a shame on their (Indian) democracy. You have been asking Hurriyat to join mainstream. How can Syed Salahudin come and sit with communal people here. You (PDP-BJP) stand exposed. You have dealt with an MLA like this.”
“I appeal to the people of Kashmir to know the right and wrong, enemy and friend. I don’t need anyones’ license. The beef ban is a minor issue, the major issue if of Kashmir which as to be resolved. If my life goes for my nation…I am ready to sacrifice,” he added.
Er Rashid questioned if they (BJP) members can drink alcohol in MLA hostel Why can’t he eat beef. “Supreme court has alreday suspended the beef ban, so I wasn’t doing any illegal act. “I am not a communal. We didn’t hurt anyone’s sentiments. We throw the party in the lawns. It is not Gandhi’s India now, but the India of Mohan Bhagwat and RSS,” he said.
