Doordarshan Kashmir Programs in troubled waters

 (Follow up story –PART 3)
Putrefy in the premier TV station of Kashmir –Doordarshan Kashmir is continuously hampering its functioning, efficacy and popularity. In past two series we have dwelled on the magnitude of corruption prevailing in the said institution.
In our first series on the rot that has stemmed deep into the roots of Doordarshan Kashmir, we focused on the rampant corrupt practices that have encircled the Kashmir’s Premier TV Station –Doordarshan Kashmir.
The program Good Morning J & K which helped in maintaining the reputation of station even during the mushrooming growth of private channels is also now in news for all the bad reasons. From corrupt practices to declining viewership, the program is confronting multitude problems.
In our second series we focused how the buck of responsibility never seems to halt in Doordarshan Kashmir with no one ready to own the accountability of mess. Director always responding as, “It is Producer’s prerogative go and confirm from them”. And Producers on their part stating “We are simply managing the program and cannot state much”.
Now the situation has worsened to extent that programmes are telecasted with grave flouting of rules and allotting them to blue-eyed persons. Zikar-i-Habib. Aani, Sufi Shrines of Hilly areas, Gulshan Gulshan which have been started and are running on prime timings bear epitome to this grim veracity. According to reliable sources, these shows were sanctioned keeping all the required norms and regulations at bay.
It is learnt that Zikar-i-Habib telecasted at 7:30 am is being produced by the Director Doordarshan Kashmir, Qayoom Wadera himself thus raising many genuine eyebrows.
Pertinently, Sufi Shrines of Hilly Areas is telecasted at 12:30 PM and is being produced by Waheed Jeelani. The program Aani is being telecasted at 2:30 Pm and is again being produced by Director Doordarshan Kashmir. Whileas the musical series program, Gulshan Gulshan is being telecasted at 11:30 and is being produced by Rajeev Sadhu.
One is also bamboozled by the fact the manner in which these programs were construed in a hurried manner without any effective norms in place and also raising genuine queries on the norms in place to edit and organize concerned human resource for such half-baked shows.
According to Prasar Bharati the premier governing body every show before being telecasted have to be sanctioned under proper guidelines and ignoring them tantamount to committing crime and in this regard it is learnt that such shows have been designed just to fulfill personal greed.
When the Kashmir Scenario tried to contact the concerned authorities to know their viewpoint on the whole mess the Director Doordarshan Kashmir, Qayoom Wadera passed his phone to his Personal Assistant (PA) in a hurried manner. The PA of Director Doordarshan Kashmir, Qayoom Wadera responded in these words –“As far as these programs are concerned all these programs are in-house productions and as such are our prerogatives the manner in which they are to be run.”

The analytical kaleidoscope makes it clear that in our part of the world especially in Kashmir the certainties in once famed institutions like Doordarshan Kashmir are mostly disappointing and pessimistic -the public spirited and devoted personas are more often than not neglected, sidelined and are dubbed as stumbling blocks and literally abused both overtly and covertly as they do not allow devilish designs to flourish. While as the corrupt officials and exploiters are held in high esteem.
All these continuing negative developments are having clear cut negative consequences with viewers on ground feeling let down by Doordarshan Kashmir, which once was their heartbeat. Viewers are clearly stating that quality of programs with every passing moment is witnessing downslide.

Quiet clearly, the rot highlighted by The Kashmir scenario with facts and minute details urges upon the concerned authorities to immediately nip the evil in the bud before it is too late it is time to show realistic action and take concrete steps.
