Srinagar: The Doctors Association has threatened to go on an indefinite strike against the illegal detention of Dr Nisar-ul Hassan by police to thwart doctors’ protest against spurious drug scam during the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to the territory.
A spokesman for the Association, Dr Mir Mushtaq in a statement said that they would go on an indefinite strike if Dr Nisar was not released.
The spokesman said, “We were just going to hold silent protests with black bands on arms to seek proper investigation into the role of the accused Congress minister in the scam. If this is even not allowed what kind of democracy India is,” Mushtaq questioned.
Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami, Society of Consultant Doctors, the Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) and the High Court Bar Association in their separate statements condemned the arrest of Dr Nisar and demanded his immediate release.
