Srinagar : With the winds of change blowing in almost every field of life in Kashmir, the youth of valley too are switching to new means of entertainment like 92.7 Big FM for a change. The history of radio in Kashmir dates back to 1948, when for the first time radio Kashmir was introduced in valley. With the introduction of private music channel, 92.7 Big FM, youth are getting more involved with radio. Youngsters believe Big FM is a welcome change. According to them, it has brought more entertainment with active participation of listeners. Youth are ready to opt for RJ as career option. Last year hundreds of young boys and girls from valley participated in RJ hunt, which was organized by Big FM. Arshad khan, a young boy hailing from Gurez made it to big FM as new RJ.

“Big FM attracted me more because of its modern touch and connectivity with youth”, says RJ Arshad khan, Big FM.
Youth keenly participate in phone-ins and request shows on big FM. “Big FM is not just entertainment, but its infotainment. That is why I prefer listening to it”, says Omar, a law student from KU.” We can easily listen to latest songs on 92.7 big FM”, he adds.

However, some people still prefer listening to Radio Kashmir instead of big FM as they find the content of radio Kashmir rich enough to keep the cultural values and Kashmiri language alive. “I still listen to radio Kashmir as it gives me a sort of kashmiriyat feeling”, says a student from KU.” Radio Kashmir makes important announcements on time that too when students need it especially during winters when light plays hide and seek”, she adds.
