Bandipora street lights go dysfunctional

Srinagar, Sep 27 : The street lights here in North Kashmir’s Bandipora District have gone dysfunctional as locals accused the PDD and Municipal authorities for their failure.


According to Inhabitants of Bandipora town and its Adjoining areas, the street lights which were installed before long time in Bandipora town right from Watapora Qazipora to Plan including the Main Bazaar Nowpora and the Tehsil Road, but most of them are not functional.

The dark streets are a cause of worry for the elderly people,” a local resident Ubair Sofi of Nowpora said, added that we have made hundreds of complaint against concerned officials but all in vain.

Qazipora Mudasir Ahmad told that, government is spending hefty amount on these street lights but it is unfortunate that the streets remains dark during night hours. Government is paying these departments a hefty amount, and it should have been utilized for installation of these street lights, he added.


The Street Lights installed several years ago, but unfortunately majority of them become dysfunctional. It has been years now; these lights are not working properly. Most lights have lost parts like bulb and the arm, a resident of plan said.

Several residents of Kaloosa said that we approached several times to Concerned Department to Make these Lights functional, but nothing was done till date.

People appeal administration to take the steps to make these lights functional so that they will not face any Inconvenience during night hours.

If these lights are made functional, Bandipora market will remain abuzz with the business activity during the late hours; Former trade Leader Mohd Yusuf said.

An Official of PDD Department said that we will redress this Problem and these Damaged lights will be repaired soon,” (KNS)
