Srinagar, August 13(KNB): As the preparations for Independence Day celebrations gain momentum across the union territory, sports activities are in full swing at various sports facilities in Jammu and Kashmir.
At the Government Middle School in Gool, exhilarating events took place in the disciplines of Taekwondo and Kabaddi, featuring enthusiastic participation from both boys and girls. The competitions witnessed more than a hundred eager participants and spectators.
Simultaneously, Independence Day commemorative events were held at the Sports Stadium in Kathua, showcasing Tug-of-War, Boxing, and Gymnastics competitions. The Tug-of-War category saw spirited participation from eight teams each in boys’ and girls’ divisions. The Boxing and Gymnastics events also drew a substantial number of players. Sunil Kumar, the District Officer of Youth Services and Sports, graced the event as the chief guest. In his address, he urged the participants to not only foster unity through sports but also engage in regular sporting activities.
The meticulously organized event was under the watchful supervision of Baljinder Pal Singh, the Manager of District Kathua, who received assistance from Mitali, the Gymnastics Coach, and Rohit Sharma, the Hockey Coach.
Meanwhile, at the Government Higher Secondary School in Lasana Surankote, spirited Carrom and Tug of War competitions took center stage. The event saw active participation from six boys’ teams and four girls’ teams. The occasion was graced by Ex-MLA Chowdhary Mohammad Akram of the Surankote constituency, who presided as the chief guest, while Choudhary Mohammad Aziz, the Principal of Government Higher Secondary School Lasana, adorned the role of the guest of honor. A sizable audience of over 800 spectators attended the event. The successful execution of the event was overseen by Nirdosh Kumar Sharma, the Incharge Manager of Sports Stadium Poonch, along with the assistance of Mushtaq Ahmad, the Boxing coach, Ram Prakash, the ground in-charge, and other officials from the Sports Council in the district.(KNB)
